Nomitha is the central character of the story"Matchbox" written by Asha purna Debi, who is one of the very famous writer in Indian English writing. She is the daughter of a widowed woman. She has not got any brothers. Still. She has been married to a rich family on the strength of her good look. She is a strong minded woman. She feels very sad when she knows that her husband Ajith has opened and read the letter addressed to her. It was of her mother's letter. She dislikes her mother's constant begging for money from her family. When Ajith makes Cheap comment she calls him'a vulgar man'. She even decides to show him the poetential of women by lighting the anchol of her sari with a matchstick. But infront of other family members she pretends to be very happy. For the smooth running of the family she does not want to tear the mask of her husband. She has a mind to keep her emotions and feeling in privacy. Her character is inspiring to readers.
